A Journey Through God's Word in Two Years
Bridge builders must keep three crucial factors in mind when they engineer a new bridge. First they must take into consideration what is called the "dead load" which is the actual weight of the bridge itself. Next, they must factor in the "live load" which is the daily traffic carried by the bridge. Finally, the "wind load" is the pressure sustained by the bridge during storms, lightening, high winds, etc.
Like modern bridge builders, today's Christians must prepare carefully for the "loads" of life they will need to bear up under. We need a solid foundation on which to construct a future which will stand the test of time and glorify and honor the Lord Jesus. There is no foundation more solid than the Word of God.
Jesus described to His followers the difference between "wise and foolish builders":
Why do you call me, 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I say? I will show you what he is like who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice. He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete. Luke 6:46-49

Psalm 1 tells us that the truly happy person is one who meditates on the Word of God night and day. However, we often find it very difficult to spend daily time reading and reflecting upon God's Word. Career, family responsibilities, unexpected emergencies, etc. are only a few of the many things that can keep us from regular enjoyment of Scripture. We can't build a sturdy bridge or rock solid foundation apart from regular and systematic intake of God's Word. We must know His Word in order to obey it.
It is hoped that a combination of daily Bible reading, devotional reading (For The Love of God), and regular interaction with other believers will strengthen your existing Bible reading habits and deepen your spiritual foundation built upon God's Word.
Thank you for joining us for this "journey through the Bible in two years." I believe you will be transformed as you faithfully pursue this exciting adventure.
". . . be transformed by the renewing of your mind."
Romans 12:2b NIV
